How to Maintain Micro-Mesh Gutter Guards

Micro-mesh keeps needles out of the gutter, but debris still lands on top. A little seasonal care keeps the mesh draining.

Micro-mesh guards stop pine needles, leaves, and seeds from getting into the gutter. What they can’t do is make debris disappear. Most of it blows off in the wind, but some settles on the mesh, especially under trees.

A simple seasonal routine

  • Late fall: after the last leaves drop, look for mats of needles on the mesh
  • Brush the surface with a soft broom or hose it from the roof edge downward
  • Spring: check for fine grit or pollen film after windy weeks
  • After big storms: confirm downspouts are draining freely

What to avoid

Don’t use a pressure washer on the mesh at close range, and don’t pry panels up to look inside. If water is running over the front of the guard, the mesh is likely coated and just needs a brushing.

When to call us

If a panel has lifted after snow slide or wind, or water is overflowing even with clean mesh, give us a call. It’s usually a loose fastener or a downspout issue, not the guard itself.
