Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about gutters in Northern Nevada.

What homeowners ask us most about seamless gutters, guards, repairs, and winter weather. Don't see your question? Call us or ask Bodie, our gutter assistant, in the corner of the page.

Seamless gutters

What makes a gutter “seamless”?

We roll aluminum coil through a forming machine at your home and cut each piece to the full length of the run. Only corners and end caps are joined, so there are far fewer places for leaks to start than with 10-foot sectional gutters.

Why are seamless gutters better than sectional gutters?

Sectional gutters have a joint every 10 feet or so, and every joint is sealed with caulk that dries out and cracks in the high-desert sun. Seamless runs remove those joints, so they leak less and look cleaner.

What gutter sizes and styles do you install?

Most homes get 5-inch or 6-inch K-style aluminum gutters. We also install half-round and copper for historic homes and custom builds, and larger profiles for commercial roofs. We size gutters and downspouts to your roof area and pitch.

What colors are available?

Aluminum coil comes in a wide range of factory-baked colors to match trim, fascia, or stucco. If your HOA requires a specific color, bring the requirement to your estimate and we’ll match it.

How long do seamless aluminum gutters last?

Properly installed and pitched aluminum gutters commonly last decades. Hanger spacing and pitch matter more than the metal itself, especially under Northern Nevada snow loads.

Gutter guards

Will gutter guards stop pine needles?

Micro-mesh guards are the most effective type for pine needles because the openings are too small for needles to pass through. Covers, foam, and brush guards tend to let needles in or trap them.

Do gutter guards mean I never clean my gutters again?

No guard is zero-maintenance. With micro-mesh, most homeowners only need to brush or hose debris off the surface occasionally, instead of scooping out packed gutters.

Can guards go on my existing gutters?

Usually, if the gutters are in good shape and correctly pitched. If they sag, leak, or are undersized, it’s better to replace them first so the guards sit on a sound system.

Do guards cause ice dams?

Guards don’t cause ice dams. Ice dams come from heat loss and freeze-thaw on the roof. Keeping gutters clear helps snowmelt drain instead of sitting and refreezing in the trough.

Repairs & replacement

Can you repair my existing gutters instead of replacing them?

Often, yes. We re-pitch sagging runs, reseal leaking corners, replace bent sections, and fix loose hangers. If repairs would cost close to a new system, we’ll say so and show you both options.

How do I know if my gutters need replacing?

Common signs are sagging or pulling away from the fascia, water spilling over the front during storms, leaks at seams, rust or holes, peeling paint or rot on the fascia, and ice sheets forming on walks below.

Why is water overflowing even though my gutters are clean?

Usually the gutter is pitched wrong, the downspouts are too small or too few for the roof area, or water from a steep valley shoots past the gutter. We check pitch, downspout sizing, and valley splash guards.

Do you fix downspouts that dump water next to the foundation?

Yes. We can add or reroute downspouts and extensions so roof water drains away from the house instead of soaking the soil along the foundation.

Snow, ice & weather

Do gutters help with ice on my walkways?

Yes. Without working gutters, snowmelt drips off the roof edge and refreezes on steps and walks overnight. Gutters and downspouts that drain away from walkways cut down on those ice sheets.

Can gutters handle Northern Nevada snow loads?

They can when hangers are spaced closely and fastened into solid framing. Many sagging gutters we replace failed because hangers were spaced too far apart or only nailed into the fascia board.

Can you install gutters in winter?

Often, yes. We work through much of the year, pausing for active storms or when conditions on the roof edge aren’t safe. Call to check current scheduling.

Estimates, pricing & scheduling

Are estimates really free?

Yes. We come out, measure, and give you a written quote with no obligation.

How much do seamless gutters cost?

Price depends on the total length of gutters, number of downspouts and corners, the gutter size and material, roof height, and whether old gutters need removal. We measure your home and give you a written quote.

How long does installation take?

Most single-family homes are finished in one day, including removing the old gutters. Larger homes, copper, or commercial projects may take longer, and we’ll tell you the timeline with your quote.

Do I need to be home for the estimate or install?

For the estimate it helps to be there so we can talk through problem spots. For the install, we just need access to the exterior of the house.

Do you remove and haul away old gutters?

Yes. Removal and haul-away of the old gutters is included when we replace a system.

Gutter basics

Why Should I Replace My Gutters?

Replacing your gutters is an essential aspect of home maintenance. New gutters help protect your home from water damage, prevent mold and mildew, and reduce the risk of pest infestations. Additionally, they keep debris out of your roofing system and prevent water from pooling around your foundation. Replacing old gutters with a modern system can enhance both the look and functionality of your home.

How Often Should I Clean My Gutters?

The frequency of gutter cleaning depends on the types of trees in your area. If you have trees shedding over your gutters, you may need to clean them up to four times per year. Pine trees, in particular, often require more frequent cleaning. If your property has minimal tree coverage, cleaning twice a year is usually sufficient.

Choosing the right gutters depends on several factors, including the size of your home, annual rainfall, surrounding trees, material preferences, gutter style, and color. At Battle Born Gutters, we provide free estimates and expert guidance to help you select the perfect gutters for your needs.
